Studio Coordinator

Chen Design Associates is looking for a kind, motivated, and organized Studio Coordinator to manage the day-to-day operations in Oakland. You would be part of our Operations team, reporting to the Director of Operations and running an office that houses about 20 on-site creative staff. This role is an opportunity to greatly influence the overall culture and energy of our growing team. We’re seeking a passionate self-starter who is excited to jump in and contribute!

Our ideal candidate is able to juggle the daily operations including managing phones, emails, meetings, events, and various tasks throughout the office. We’re looking for a resourceful, thoughtful, and service-oriented person who exhibits a high level of initiative and takes ownership in completing tasks in a dynamic environment. Chen Design Associates is an established and growing studio, looking for a Studio Coordinator who is excited to grow with us. This role is full-time and offers a competitive benefits package.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide a welcoming presence for clients, visitors, and staff alike; maintain a studio environment that runs smoothly on a daily basis
  • Manage reception, main phone lines, calendar, and email account for the studio
  • Supervise all shipping/receiving; ensure all deliveries are accounted for and packages are delivered in a timely fashion
  • Take responsibility for a range of general administrative support functions including light project management support
  • Assist in accounts receivable/payable tasks; keep track of the studio budget, purchasing, payments to vendors, and petty cash
  • Assist and communicate with our IT team as needed to help resolve IT issues
  • Maintain a neat and clean studio and coordinate building repairs as needed
  • Help plan studio events and book company travel as needed
  • Collaborate to familiarize new employees and contractors with studio systems
  • Assist and coordinate in the growing needs of the studio


  • 2+ years of experience in an administrative role at a creative agency, design firm, or in-house creative team
  • Degree in a related field
  • Excellent communication and relationship management skills
  • Quick learner with a passion for all things creative, branding, digital, technology, and print
  • Great organizational and people skills
  • Proven attention to detail while also being tech savvy
  • Must be able to determine priorities, take ownership of tasks, and exhibit a high level of initiative and follow-through in a fast paced environment
  • Must be a problem solver, ready to find solutions for problems as they arise
  • MacOS experience required
  • Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, Harvest, Basecamp, Asana, and Google Calendar experience a plus

Graphic Designer

Chen Design Associates seeks a well-rounded mid-level designer to join our award-winning creative team in Oakland. Reporting to the Design Director, our ideal design candidate is passionate and talented with an inspired work ethic. Candidates are able to turn great ideas into engaging creative from start to finish, carrying a client’s brand story through identity, print, packaging, and digital in a collaborative and team-oriented environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver innovative design, from concept through execution, for a wide range of clients in print, packaging, branding, and digital
  • Confidently present thoughtful and strategic designs to the team, taking constructive criticism and initiative to learn and grow
  • Support and assist with production, comping, and creative as needed
  • Actively participate in creative ideation, brainstorming, internal meetings, and activities
  • Follow processes and procedures and maintain communication with project managers, directors, and cross functional teams


  • 3+ years of solid graphic design experience in both print and digital within a studio or agency
  • Degree in Graphic Design
  • Possess a passion and refined sensibility for typography, color, and design trends
  • Highly proficient in Adobe Creative Suite with experience in the print production process
  • Efficient and organized with an eye for detail

Senior Web Designer

Our digital practice is growing and we are looking for a strong visual design leader with a proven track record of creating engaging digital experiences. Our primary design tools are Sketch and Photoshop with prototyping apps such as inVision. Our focus is on website design, of all sizes and complexity, though any app design experience is a plus.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead design on multiple projects
  • Work closely with Interactive Director on managing workloads across team
  • Participate in team collaboration sessions, developing concepts, and direction
  • Create high fidelity design comps
  • Build client facing prototypes and presentations
  • Participate in basic UX practices
  • Contribute in all aspects of the process workflow


  • 5+ years designing real world websites and digital experiences
  • Degree in Graphic Design
  • Understanding of WordPress and current digital best practices and trends
  • Solid understanding of UX principles and practices required
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively
  • Additional interactive and motion skills such as After Effects are a big plus
  • Proven ability to collaborate with a creative team
